I make these every 4th of July, and here is how I do it, put some chunks of dry ice in a empty 2 litter bottle then pour in about a cup of hot water, screw on cap and you can feel the thing expanding throw quickly and then wait. They take a lot longer than you would think to go off like 5+ min. and you almost forget about them, well you might not but everyone else does, and they go off like a loud as hell!! Scare the shit and depending where you live are pretty good at getting the cops to the neighborhood. And when I have done it think about 5 years now, I never can find a piece of plastic bigger than a dime if any. And no would not recommend picking one up, I did once, once, it was a Gatorade bottle and just as I touched it it went off, and my hand stung for days almost thought there was something broke in there for a few hours.
