Also, in Windows, click your way to ............ START>PROGRAMS>START UP If there is anything in this folder, RIGHT click each item and choose DELETE. This doesn't delete the programs or anything like that, it deletes the "call" function for these programs to open their (not sure of name) "sub-programs". What it is generally, such as with Adobe, its a little operation always running waiting for you to need to use Adobe, and when you do, that Adobe program will supposedly load up much faster than normal. But if you aren't using it all the time, you are causing your overall computer experience to be slower. Make sure that START UP folder is empty. And check it monthly to make sure some automatic update didn't toss something back in there.

Make sure to also look at the hardware side of things... plenty of older computers have bad capacitors, when they start to go, the actually bus speed can revert to a default, slower value. It is common on Socket A systems.
