Bit confused on this one. I just took the 2 512mb ram chips out of my old pc and replaced the 2 256mb chips in my fiance's PC. TUrned it on and it still says she has 512mb. Is it only saying 512 because they are in parallel and not actually adding together? Both chips are identical except for the mbs.

Some chip sets will not support certain ram densities. What motherboard does she have in her computer?

go into the bios and see if it has a llimit set to the Ram. Also make sure you put them in the right slots, they should be in slots 1 and 2 if you put them in 2 and 3 they might not register.

I put them in the exact spots the previous were in. The white clips. The other 2 are black clips. I do remember that it was required to have the ram in parallel. Had to have 2 chips of the same.
