More ‘24’ for fans – prequel details revealed!

Producers for Fox series 24 are doing everything they can to tide fans over until next season’s airing of new episodes.

The Season 7 prequel, a two-hour TV movie to air this fall, is one of those projects – and finally, details surrounding the plot have been unveiled.

Executive producer Manny Coto revealed the plot will feature Kiefer Sutherland’s character Jack Bauer traveling to Africa, the original storyline for the beginning of the seventh season, according to BuddyTV.

The journey is the next stop on Jack’s quest for a place to be at peace, says Coto, but he will find himself in the middle of a military coup while in Africa.

The movie will lead into Season 7, which will see former Counter-Terrorist Unit agent Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), formerly believed to be dead, the suspect of terrorist attacks. Jack and FBI agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) team up while trying to figure out why Tony is “trying to bring down this country,” says Coto.

If diehard fans can’t wait for a dose of 24 until the prequel debuts, The Rookie, a 24 spinoff, is now available in five-minute webisodes.

The spinoff stars Jeremy Valdez as Jason Blaine, a character who first appeared in Season 5 of 24. The first instalment, titled “Extraction,” follows Blaine to Mexico City where the infamous Salazar drug family, introduced in Season 3, have kidnapped Blaine’s mentor Alton Maxwell (Eric Beck).

"It's becoming an incredible way ... to help people get through a long dry spell caused by the strike," Coto told the Associated Press.

Now in its third phase, The Rookie has all the same elements of its parent series, including the ticking clock, framed character windows and music from composer Sean Callery.

Kelly told me about this prequel a while back and considering that I couldn't wait for Season 7 to start in February and now have to wait until next year I guess this is better than nothing.

Can't wait to see Jack back.

Don't know that I'll bother with the webisodes much though.

Voight signs on for villainous role on \"24\"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In his first series role in 40 years, Jon Voight has signed on as a recurring character on the upcoming seventh season of \"24.\"

On the Emmy-winning Fox drama, Voight will play the uber-nemesis of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), who is pulling the strings behind next season's terrorist threat.

The character will be introduced during \"24's\" two-hour Season 7 prequel and will be featured heavily in the latter half of the season.

The prequel, now shooting on location in South Africa, is slated to air November 23, with Season 7 of the series kicking off in January.

Voight's role marks the first high-profile villain casting on \"24\" since Season 1, when Dennis Hopper appeared in the final episodes as Serbian nationalist Victor Drazen.

Voight did several TV guest spots early in his career -- including a three-episode stint on \"Gunsmoke\" in the late '60s -- until his movie career exploded with \"Midnight Cowboy\" in 1969.

A four-time Academy Award nominee, Voight won the best actor Oscar for 1978's \"Coming Home.\" He recently reprised his role as Nicolas Cage's father in \"National Treasure: Book of Secrets.\"

I really don't like Jon Voight and have never been able to take him seriously since I saw him in Anaconda (the one with the backwards waterfall.. ).

And I would hardly say that Julian Sands, Peter Weller & Arnold Vosloo weren't "high profile" granted maybe not as high as Voight but to discount them completely is a bit of an insult.

Yeah...I like James Cromwell (he played Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek), but as Jack's Dad...not so much.

Plus I still don't believe he's dead...I reckon he got off that Oil Rig somehow.

So this has now changed it's name from 24:Exile to 24 "Redemption" and I still can't wait to see it.

But, they've also released the new trailer for Season 7 which starts in January and I was already looking forward to it (for like 2 years nearly), but after seeing this trailer I soooo can't wait.

I totally love 24 (in case you didn't guess)
