Thread: Online career thing

    Question Online career thing

My cousin married this guy, it's been about a year or two I lost track- he has 3 kids, as does she--- we've teased her about being the disfunctional brady bunch. Anyhoo, his oldest daughter graduated last year, and has just pretty much sat on her ass ever since. She complains about not having money but says that she wants a job that she likes. My cousin asked me if there was an online career thing that she could take so if she would go back to school she knew what the hell she was interested in. Well I said I would ask some people I know (you guys ) cuz I have no idea. I told her alot of colleges have something like that - i think, but i think she wants one that her step daughter can do at home. So any ideas?

    Re: Online career thing

My husband did Phoenix Online although I think it's Axia now. Even though it's online you have to be pretty sharp, there isn't much help from the "professors" if you need it. If she isn't a self motivator I wouldn't recommend the online thing, I think it can almost be more demanding than going to a campus somewhere. She would have to get herself online and doing the reading on her own.

That being said the reason we chose Axia for my husband was his mother is the executive assistant for a large insurance company, and she said that is almost the only online college that they will accept a diploma from. It has a great reputation.

    Re: Online career thing

I wouldn't say great, but it's just the only one that tends to be at all reputible. But if I understand what Layni is saying, she's looking for some sort of "career apptitude" test, where in you take the test and they tell you what might interest you for a career based on your personal interest and habbits. right?

If you are talking about online schooling, I highly recomend you shine away from that. Most of the time the diplomas aren't genuine, and even with places like phoenix, if going up against another person with a diploma from a traditional school, you are more likely to be passed on in favor of the other person (in job hunting that is).

She wants a career apptitude test- cuz she has no idea what she wants to do right now. I don't know if the girl will even go to college- she seems to think that the world owes her just for being here. I told her about the online colleges- and she didnt think jobs were impressed by getting a diploma online.

    Re: Online career thing

well after putting "career aptitude test" into Mortysweb, I came up with the following

    http://www.careerexplorer.net/aptitude.asp

    http://www.funeducation.com/

    http://jobsearch.about.com/od/career...areertests.htm

    http://web.tickle.com/take/free-onli...itude-test.jsp

and there were over 100,000 other matches

I agree, I use it for all my searches....never heard of this Google so I guess it's not as good as MortysWeb.
