Thread: (Weekly Poll 16) Are Celebrities Making A Mockery of Marriage?

Question (Weekly Poll 16) Are Celebrities Making A Mockery of Marriage?

A slightly more serious poll this week, but I'm curious........

With so many "high profile" celebrity couples getting married and divorced all over the place, (latest examples being Britney & K-Fuck or Marilyn Manson & Dita Von Teese), are Celebrities making a mockery of Marriage or do you think that whole idea of Marriage as an institution is dead anyways, no matter how much the celebs trash it??

So the options are that either....

Yes - You believe that Celebrities getting Married and Divorced every 5 minutes is making Marriage less important than ever in people's eyes.

No - You think that Marriage is still as important as it ever was, no matter how much Celebrities don't respect the vows that they make.

    or

No - You believe that the institution of Marriage was pretty much dead already, no matter what the Celebrities do.

I do believe it is no big deal to them, but it has lost meaning a long time ago !!! My mother has been married 4 times and I always said it is something sacred so me and my husband were together for 3 years before we got married cause I wanted to make sure it was what we both wanted ...He felt the same as his mother has been married 6 times..And you know what it says til death do you part.. and well I take my vows very seriously...

We;; I've been Married 13 years in April, but I believe that by getting Married & Divorced every few weeks Celebrities are promoting a culture of "What the fuck?"

By which I mean they're saying to people...."So what if it doesn't work out? You can always divorce and try again!"

My opinion is why get Married in the first place if that's your attitude, it just seems pointless to me to do that. Get Married if you mean it and are going to take your vows seriously.

I understand that Marriages can break down and people change, I'm not saying divorce is a bad thing, just don't rush headlong into Marriage without being certain about it.

People like Brad Pitt, Angelina jolie, Britney and likes aren't helping at all.

I agree 100% and the children that look up to these celebrities are gonna have the same perspective... Family Values has gone to shit...I agree people change after years of marriage I also agree you dont find out certain things til youve lived with someone for a few years but it is crazy the who gives a fuck attitude ...Me and my husband celebrated 10 years of marriage in Oct. and I think I love him more than I did when I married him...I cannot imagine life without him !!!

Re: (Weekly Poll 16) Are Celebrities Making A Mockery of Marriage?

Celebs make it seem so common to get married and then divorced because of all the press they get. Come on.........admit it......you know some of them just do it for the scuttlebutt and the press.

Even if this is going on I believe that the institution of marriage is still alive..it is just buried deep under all the bullshit of peoples moral values....that at times seem to be gone. I for one firmly believe in marriage even after being divorced once. With the ever growing need for both partners to work in order to make ends meat it has become easier for both partners to become "distracted" by urges that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

Add the fact that people are less likely to really try to save a marriage these days because it has become easier to get a divorce than to get married, is all the more reason that it goes to show how screwed up the world really is these days. Only one way to change that............Yep you guessed it

Re: (Weekly Poll 16) Are Celebrities Making A Mockery of Marriage?

I think it's way to easy to blame celebs for the shit. There have been huge amounts of divorces ever since they've been relatively easy to obtain, and when the entire society has changed drastically on the structure of marriage it's impratical to think that celeb marriages have much of an effect. (They are more likely a byproduct)
But when a society moves from a attitude of being married and having a kid by 25 to not even being married by 25 in most cases, the whole dynamic of the game shifts drastically. That has more of an effect than brad pit and angelina. Marriage started loosing it's weight when it became socially accepteble to not get married at all. And when marriage became less important, it also became more dissposable.

Re: (Weekly Poll 16) Are Celebrities Making A Mockery of Marriage?

I think marriage is only as important as the two people in it make it. Yes, alot of celebs wed and divorce like it's nothing, that just says alot about their character, and the fact that they're in the spot light says watch me. But, it happens all the time in regular lives as well. Everyone loves being in love and lots of people can't tell the difference between love and lust. Lust only lasts so long, then your left with the rest. But, you need to remember not all dirty laundry is aired and you never really know what happens behind other peoples closed doors.

And, I'm happy for Brad and Angelina. Everyone deserves happiness.
Why buy the entire pig just to get a little sausage!!!!!!
