    Thumbs up Accepted

    Movie Title: Accepted

    Director: Steve Pink

    Rated: PG-13

    Genre: Comedy

    Runtime: 1 hr. 32 min.

    Viewed: Theatre

Synopsis: High school senior Bartleby "B" Gaines is on his way to scoring eight out of eight rejection letters from colleges, which isn't going to go over big with Mom and Dad. At least he's not alone in the exclusion. Several of his crew of outcast friends are in the same, college-less boat. So how does a guy facing a bleak career please his parents and get noticed by dream girl Monica? Simple. Open his own university. B and his band of misfit freshmen take "liberal" arts literally when they fool their parents and peers and create the esteemed South Harmon Institute of Technology. Just as they are settling in, B and company realize they've done their jobs too well. Dozens of other college rejects show up for classes at this less-than-lofty institute. Under the scornful eyes of the privileged students from the neighboring college, B and his friends forge ahead with maintaining a fake, functioning university. With his future in the balance, it's going to take more than just sleight of hand to keep B out of jail as he strives to get the girl, impress his parents and just become "Accepted."

Opinion: I loved this movie. I was almost surprised by how much. It's not a boundry breaking comedy, and as you may have noticed it's PG-13 rating may make it look like "Old School's" little brother (as the Onion described it in their review), but let me tell you that you really don't notice that it's "clean", like you do with many non R rated comedies. It also does use a few time tested movie templates, such as the jocks vs the weirdos, but they feel surprisingly fresh in this movie.

The dialog is quick and witty, so for anyone who is a fan of those types of movies it is an immediate winner. There is some slapstick, just plain physical comedy, and of course a fat kid in a hot dog suite telling people to ask him about his weiner. Overall the movie is simply funny, the writers obviously didn't feel the need to redefine the modern comedy, and I'm quite content with what they did. Lastly, it's got a whole hell of a lot of heart. It is a feel good movie in the true meaning of the phrase, the audience in the theatre acctually clapped at the ending, something I had only seen at the end of the re-release of Star Wars back in I believe 98 prior to this movie.

Oh, and since I know you're wondering, Lewis Black was hilarious as the school's "dean".
