This isn't exactly a ramble but I would like to thank the members who, by their various comments, have shown support. I'm not worried about the surgery. I know it is a serious matter when someone digs close to the spinal nerves. The Sciatic nerve is the largest one in the human body: The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter. (quoted from spineuniverse.com) I doubt that it will be easy to miss. In the diagrams, nerves are usually coloured yellow. In reality I doubt that it other than blood colour. One slip of the surgeon's knife and the legs are useless. Still, I am not worried. I trust my surgeon.
Over the past few weeks, I've been subbing a lot. It seems that I am in demand and seldom spend time at home. This afternoon, I was at a Junior High School, filling in for a teacher who is retiring this year. I had to deal with Social Studies for grade sevens and English for grade eights. Tomorrow, I'm at a different Junior High School and I shall be teaching Drama, apparently. At least I'll have fun--never mind the kids. One of the advantages of having a bad back is that I get to carry a walking stick. It has a large knob that fits nicely into the palm of ones hand, except when I joke that I'm going to hit one of the unrulies on the head. We have lots of fun with it. So far I haven't straddled it or tried to use it as a means of transportation. I prefer to leave that to those who consider themselves expert at manoeuvring broomsticks.
Sad news today. An 18 year old girl who was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago, died early this morning. She was the girl friend of a kid I know very well. I wonder how things like that happen to kids who don't smoke and are at the height of their youth with all the expectations of a wonderful life. God bless her soul.
I am in the process of questioning my membership in this site. Over the next little while I shall be considering what to do and whether or not to disengage myself from it. At one time, I was one of its greatest fans. . . .
And so to bed.
