So my son's Playstation 2, (which we just replaced last October), developed this fault last week. Basically, when he's playing a game the disc had started to rattle and vibrate in the disc drawer and it was getting worse.

Seeing as they come with a 12 month warranty I dug out the receipt and called into the Argos store where I bought it to ask what the procedure was. I stood in the customer services line for about 5 minutes only to be told that I'd have to go stand in a line at the other side of the store...so I did. Finally got to explain the problem and was told that I'd need to contact Sony direct as they deal with all warranty issues in the first instance. If I spoke to them and they couldn't repair it, then I had to take it back to the store and they would just swap it for me. Sounded fair enough as I was ready for an arguement, (most times when I have to return something it degenerates into an arguement).

So I rang Sony yesterday, and after going through what seemend like 15 trillion different recorded voice options, (press 1 for this, press 2 for that, press 3 if you know when you shit last...and, well you get the idea), I finally got to speak to a real human being who explained the procedure that they would just swap like for like. So he took all my details and model number, colour of machine etc, and said that the replacement would be despatched straight away and they could just be swapped over today.

So around 12 Noon today, delivery man arrives, opens up the security sealed box, hands over the console, a bunch of cables and connectors etc, and takes the faulty unit off me, get's me sign his paperwork and off he goes. At this point I'll just add that my son last used the PS2 and my wife unhooked the whole thing from the TV.

As 3pm rolls around and my son is due in from school, we hook up the new unit to the TV and tell him to check that it all works ok. So he switches it on, opens the drawer and says, "Where's my GTA : San Andreas disc at?"

And you already know the fucking answer.........







It's in the old unit, securely packaged up and now winging it's way back to Sony.

So I said, "Did no-one think to check the machine before it was unhooked?" to which the reply came back, "Well neither did you!" I decided to quit while I was behind. I've learned the hard way not to further antagonise an already pissed off female, it never ends well.

So I ended up having to ring Sony back, (listening again to 15 trillion recorded options to get to where I need to be), and finally end up speaking to the smae guy I spoke to yesterday, who tells me that they have a procedure in place for "this type of thing" and that it happens "more than you'd think". I could almost sense him thinking "what a dick!".

Anyway, he punched my details up onto his system and said that the courier couldn't just open the box as it was security sealed. I'd have to wait until it went through the system at Sony, at which time it would be returned to me but it could take up to 4 weeks.

I had thought that when everything seemed to go off without a hitch that it all seemed a little too easy......and I was right. I honestly believe that if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

I was over working on a morons computer about a month ago and once it was working he wanted me to load his brrand new game he had just bought (I don't remember which one) I put the CD in and it wouldn't work, I diagnosed the drive and found out it was bad. I told him and ran across the street to get a new one. On my way back across the street he leans over his balcony and tosses the broken drive down to the parking lot, 17 stories, The drive hits the cement and basically blows up. I get upstairs and he is proud of the fact that he took the drive out of the computer and launched it over the rail. So I put the new drive in and ask him to pass me the Game CD, yup you guessed it he never took it out of the drive. I laughed and laughed and when I was depositing his cheque into my bank I laughed some more.

We traded our playstation 2 recently and left our ATV game in it. My b/f still hasnt called the guy and ask him for the freaking game back though. That was in like January or Febuary.
