| Gosh it's good to be back home again !! Well actually I haven't been anywhere,,, except to work,,,oh yeah and I also went to work. Oh yeah ! and I also went to work !! While the other guy was on vacation. For the last 2 weeks itz been leave the house at 6:10 pm get back at 7:45 am ,, be in bed by 9:30am,, usually wake up about 2 pm to piss, moan and groan,,then lay back down,, toss and turn till about 2:30- 2:45. Then my sweet, lovable wife wakes me up at 3 pm. Just about the time I start sleeping good again. *heavy sigh* What a fuckin life ! I even put a name on my hardhat "psycho" I did pretty good for an old man tho. I walk an average of 7-8 miles every nite I work. On the easiest night, I'll walk 6, but I don't get many "easy" nights. But anyway, It's great to be back on my regular 3 on-3 off. Oh yeah, and since me and the other guy traded 2 days, I get 5 nights off to start with. That's going to be nice. Maybe I'll find something worth posting. Did ya'll know I can see into the future ?? I didn't either until last monday. This is going to be sooo good when it all plays out. The guy who went "off" on me, is on vacation right now and won't be back for a week. I'll be off the night he returns,,,maybe. I might have to go in just to see the look on his face. I will refer to him as Mr.WASO (Mr. Whiney Ass Sizing Operator) If he ever reads this, he'll damn well know who posted it too. And if you are Mr.WASO reading this,,, ya better hope ya don't burst out in flames, because I don't think anybody would even piss on you to put you out. Oh yeah, back to the story. Sorry I get sidetracked alot. I'm behind on my surfin too !! When I first started working there the SO's were sizing samples for the STS department. We make itty bitty pellets, Not big as a bb and smaller. Well the SO's got to faking numbers and such (lazy bastards)that they handed it over to QC. And we have alot to do. So for about 6 months, I busted my ass, doing those samples,,,chemistries and particle sizes, tests on trucks bringing us ore,, tests on trucks leaving with our product. While Mr.WASO set on his lazy ass and surfed the internet all night long. *Heavy Sigh* Well a couple of months ago STS whined they wasn't getting the sample info back quick enough. So they loaded up all the sample tools and hauled it to STS, and had a utility do the samples at STS ! Off of my hands !!! While they was moving all the equipment Mr.WASO says,,, Man I'm glad they moved that noisy shit out of here. And me,,, being the kind of guy I am, I decided to tell a lie, just to get him razzed up. And man did I ever. I just made this up on the spur of the moment too. Almost freaky. I said Mr.WASO,,, don't get used to it. They're just going to take them down there for a couple of months. He said "Huh"? I said yeah,,, they're going to do the samples down there and the yield numbers are going to shoot up,, everythings going to look good until,,, they run out of greenware, but the numbers say there should still be 100 tons in the tank. And when they figure out somebody's paddin the numbers they'll move it all back up here and you'll get the pleasure of doing them again. Ohhh mannn,, the dude went off,, started screaming at me. That he'll never do them again. Said one of the production supervisors ( I'll refer to him as Mr.DH,, )told him, you will never have to do those samples again. I looked him in the eye and said Mr.DH don't run the show around here and as I turned to leave Mr.WASO pretty much throwed his chair across the room. Then I turned around and said "BTW,,Mr.DH lies,,I don't." ![]() Well it happened Monday, actually I heard rumor of it on Sunday from another supervisor and thought he was pullin my leg. But Monday when I showed up, it was like somebody turned back time. All the equipment was back and guess who gets to do the samples when he comes back from vacation. Gosh I love it when shit like that happens !! |

| Re: Mr.WASO Sorry dude,,, I was trying to cut out some of the details to make it somewhat shorter."SO" stands for Sizing Operator. "STS" stands for "Super Transsometinudder System" ![]() I can't remember what the "T" stands for. But I remember when I was told I was like. It's a huge word. Anyway,,We make "proppant". We take bauxite (a dirt with high alumina,,or aluminum) and we mill it to a powder in a ball mill. Then STS takes that powder and mixes it with a little water and some binder (glue) in huge mixers. to form itty bitty balls, smaller than bb's. Actually it looks like sand. I've been told that these mixers are like the ones they use in cereal manufacturing.(like cocoa puffs and life) But only more heavy duty. We run samples on the size of it there to make sure we don't send a bunch of stuff thats too big or too small to the kiln. Then they run it through a huge rotating kiln, that looks like a 16' wide steel pipe about 200' long. That has a flame shooting through it that cooks the proppant at about 1400* C. The firebrick in the kiln have small cracks that the proppant falls into and as it rotates and those cracks get to the top the proppant rolls out of the cracks and fall through the fire, cooking it. It's a on going process, raw feed is always being put in the upper end (unless something breaks down, which causes all kinds of hell) and a cooked product comes out of lower end. I say upper and lower, there is a very slight grade (unlevelness) to the kiln. But mainly the cooked product is pushed out by adding raw material at the upper end. Then after it's cooked it goes to sizing. That's where Mr.WASO is. The cooked product goes into a huge tank that distributes it onto some rotex's. Yeah I know,, It's a machine that has several different sizes of screen mats about 3' wide and 10' long that shake back and forth making the product fall thru the screen or roll down the screen to then be sent to the finish tanks or trash. If it's too big,or tooo small,it's trashed (which we don't have much of). It's something else to try and explain. People ask me all the time, what I do. And as you can see,,,it's almost unexplainable. We make several different sizes to sell. I don't know if you know anything about screen sizing, yeah like window screen. But they make it in all different sizes. Basically a #20 screen has 20 holes per square inch. #40 screen has 40 holes per square inch and so on. We make one size called 20/40,, there's nothing init that will not fit thru a #20 screen and nothing smaller than what fits thru a #40. Same with 12/18,,16/30 and so on. I guess I should say what we use it for. They use it mainly in gas wells.(and some oil wells) They mix it with drilling fluids and put it down in the well and push it down into the earth with about 10,000 lbs of pressure. Forcing it into cracks and crevices down in the well and make new cracks and crevices even. That's called "fracturing" or "fracking" you may have heard of it. The proppant stays in the cracks and crevices to actually keep it propped open, while gas and water leave the well, hence the name "proppant" It's wild,, the plant we work in looks like there's a dust storm going on 24/7/365. When people ask me what I do,, I usually tell em,, I take dirt, mill it, form it, cook it, size it, then put it back in the earth. The stuff is tough,, a little bit on a concrete floor is like walking on ice. It just rolls under your shoes. Hope that explains things a little better |

| Your Twisted Leader | Re: Mr.WASO I'll have to read about it more, but from what it sounds like, you take tiny balls of metal, melt them, and then turn them back into tiny balls of metal again. Unless you are making screens. WTF? ---------- Is this that same stuff that is in liquid form that locksmiths use and others to squirt in moving parts to free them up and move smoother. Can't seem to remember the name at the moment.

| KING OF MEAN | Re: Mr.WASO proppant 1. n. [Well Workover and Intervention]ID: 4985 Sized particles mixed with fracturing fluid to hold fractures open after a hydraulic fracturing treatment. In addition to naturally occurring sand grains, man-made or specially engineered proppants, such as resin-coated sand or high-strength ceramic materials like sintered bauxite, may also be used. Proppant materials are carefully sorted for size and sphericity to provide an efficient conduit for production of fluid from the reservoir to the wellbore. So what does all this mean????
