OK, a little background first of all. About 10 years ago, or so, Purple Dragon bought what she thought was a dragon ornament type of thing, as she's into dragon's and collects all sorts of things relating to them. As time went by we discovered it was actually called a Foo Dog and it was probably Vietnamese, but almost all of the Foo Dog ornament things that you find are at the most 12 inches high, and most not even that. This thing Dragon has is somewhat larger than that... ![]() So for the last few years we've been trying to find out more about it and if it might be worth much more than the £8 ($16) that she paid for it...but with no success, no-one knew or had heard of one that was this size before. So a few weeks ago Kelly saw an ad in the paper for this TV show that was coming near us called "Dickinson's Real Deal". Basically a knock off of the Antiques Roadshow, but for a different channel and hosted by this Antique Dealer/TV Star called David Dickinson. David Dickinson So she contacted them...told them all about it and they were interested to see it, so this morning Purple dragon, me, Jezza, My brother Odie & Baby Shoota all took a trip through to see what was what. The basic idea of the show is that they'll check out your item, you may or may not be filmed for TV, and they may make you a cash offer for the item there and then, but you don't have to sell if you don't want to. So Purple Dragon got herself all smarted up and so on and we went. It was quite busy, but not massively so, and we had to stand in line for about 15 minutes, but we were in the "Priority" queue as she'd spoken to them on the phone... David Dickinson was quite happily just wandering around checking out stuff people had brought.... Now at this point we had no idea what it was worth, if anything, we were just curious to see what the experts had to say, so when Dragon got to the table, it did get quite a lot of attention as no-one had quite seen anything like it before....many discussions were had about it...and the expert talking to Dragon about it was filmed as he did so... The upshot was that they offered a maximum of £70 ($140) for it, which wasn't bad when you consider what she paid for it, but she decided not to sell as as she's had it for so long, she really didn't want to part with it for that amount...now had it been thousands..that would have been a different story. So the footage that they shot may or may not be used in the final show, and if it is I'll rip it and upload it, however, as we were getting ready to leave they decided that the Dragon was just nutty enough to have a sit down chat about it with David Dickinson and that would more than likely make it into the show. So Dragon agreed and was waiting to get a mic fitted when they came over and said there'd been a change and no she wouldn't be chatted to about it. I think basically Dickinson decided no in the end....bastard, I just about had her persuaded to have an MTW sticker displayed under her name badge too... So close....and yet so far.......

You look good in that picture- what are you talking about? My grandma used to have a clock that her grandma gave to her, and she got it from someone further up- anyhoo~ she took it to a clock person in Des Moines and the guy just about flipped offered her 2500 for it. Of course she said yes- cuz as she said it was old as it was so damn ugly- she was happy to get rid of it. |
