The story you are about to read is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent................. Some of you may know that I recently had my 20 year High School reunion in Montana. It's a little town that is the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone Park called Red Lodge. It’s a quiet community, well at least since I have moved away that is, that somehow I still call it home. The last time I was there was 11 years ago for my best friends wedding. Now as most of you also know, any time I do anything it usually means quite an interesting story is about to be told. This is my story…………… July 1st I was on a plane in the afternoon heading for Billings Montana getting ready to see people that I haven’t seen in 20 years. Man how time flies. The flight to Salt Lake City Utah was a nice and quiet flight, I had only had 2 or 3 Jack and Cokes before I left California so I wasn’t my usual loud mouthed self yet. Once in Salt Lake I was walking from one end of the airport to the other to catch my connecting flight, like you always have to do when you end up in Salt Lake City, when I came across a couple of Marines home from Iraq. I shook their hands and thanked them for the service they had provided and bought them all a drink at the bar. Once I was done having a couple more for the short flight to Billings and got on my plane I found out that one of my classmates was on my flight and was able to catch up with what she had been doing for 20 years. Meet her husband and kids and talked about old times. She looked great, something I can’t say that I do since I was only about 120lbs lighter back then. . I arrived in Billings about 10:30 pm and collected my bag and golf clubs and loaded them into my rental SUV. At 11pm the friend that lives near me in California arrived and we started the drive to Red Lodge which is about an hour Southwest of Billings. This friend of mine was 2 years behind me in school but goes back to Red Lodge every year during the 4th of July to visit his family. Once we got to Red Lodge the first thing we did was head to one of my favorite hangouts, “The Snow Creek Salon. Now mind you, Montana is known for it’s drinking seeing how during the winter there really isn’t much else to do to keep warm other than drink, which I think is why Willriker is drunk all the time. Seeing how Britain and Montana more or less have the same seasons. At this point I would like to point out that unlike all bars in California, when you order a Jack and Coke here, you get 98% Jack and 1% coke. The missing 1% is the water from the ice that helps dilute the firewater you are about to drink. . Holy shit, I don’t even mix them this stiff at home. After several and I do mean several of these, it was time for the bar to close down, I mean it was 2am already for crying out loud. I ended up crashing at my friends parents house for a couple of hours, but was up by 6am to go play my first round of golf. Red Lodge has a fun course that was built just before I left Montana and I was anxious to play it since it had been 20 years since the last time I played it. My friend wasn’t as anxious to get up as I was but finally decided to join me and me best friend to play. Needless to say, the first day of golfing did not go well with the pounding headache I had and the lack of sleep but was still fun. Afterwards I went back to my best friends house, his name is Jim, and Jim’s family and I talked for a couple of hours. Around this time I was starting to feel better so I decided to head back to the saloon and have a few more before the evening BBQ which was the official start of the reunion. . Several Jack and Cokes later, and against better judgment, I drove to where the BBQ was being held and proceeded to park right in front of the front door, and walk inside and announce that I was there, let’s party……… later I found out that I hadn’t even closed the door to the SUV. It is at this point that I will tell you that out of a graduating class of 24 kids, yes I said 24, 16 of us showed up. Not a bad turnout by my opinion. I’m not sure that any of them want me to name them by name, so I won’t, but man it was great to see all of them. It seemed like we hadn’t been away from each other for that long. Stay tuned for part 2…………… Pig races are involved……….this you have got to hear about!!!
