Old friend almost died yesterday

So I got a call about 11:30 last night from one of my friends back home who told me that a girl who I was best friends with a few years back has been in a car accident.
She was riding her crotch rocket and was stopped at an intersection when some guy in a truck, trying to beat the traffic, slamned right into her. He then drove off. Apparently he was going pretty fast, a friend of mine who was there right after the accident happened said she was quite a distance from her bike (he didn't even know it was her at the time though). She ended up getting Flight For Life up to Milwaukee because they wanted to make sure she didn't have any internal bleeding or head trauma. (Thankfully she had just finally started wearing her helmet after her Grandma had made her) All considered she got lucky, her leg was broken in two places below the knee and was in surgery from 11pm to 4am last night and has to go back in on Tuesday. I guess there is a good chance she'll be getting a metal rod put in. Otherwise there appears to be no head trauma and she has feeling so there appears to have been no nerve damage either. Just crazy shit, would of been the 2nd person from my graduating class to die in a car accident, ironically both of them were in my group of best friends my freshman year.
As for the guy, well they caught him later that day. Not to surprising since it's a busy intersection and on a saturday there's little chance of no one seeing something. Turns out he was driving without a license, and is illegal. But, and get this, he's from England. Not Mexico or even up north, freaking England! Damn British bastards.

Ever since 11 last night though I've been getting and making phone calls non stop from people wanting to know what's happening and people updating me on the news. Including last night when I had to call a friend down in Florida who, to be blunt, loves this girl. I figured I should call him about it, one of my friends decided to tell him the news on messenger. Stupid girl, I'm a guy, i'm supposed to be the emotional cripple, don't know what the hell her problem was.

These are always those situations that make you really regret ever having said bad things about people.

well I keep hearing mixed information but I'm trusting the source my mom is qouting at the moment, which would be the girls grandma who acctually visited her today. No one knows entirely whats going on at the moment, least not first hand, so about every fifteen minutes another person claims to have heard she has head trauma or has internal bleeding, etc.

heh, my father has been in ICU in the last ten years more than most people are their entire lives, I'm pretty level-headed about these things.

I agree, my dad and uncle both ride and I intend to do the same myself in the future. (I'd get my licence this summer but living an hour away from home which is where the bike I would practice on is makes it kind of hard.) I always give bikers extra space when possible.

I guess she went in for her 2nd surgery last night, I should hear sometime today how that went.

See and that's the thing about situations like these, people who don't know who she even is pretend that they care and everyone starts makin up stupid stories! It's sad that someone's pain is the gossip of the town, so those same stupid people have to keep makin shit up! It's Kind of Funny when you know it first hand!

But, I have faith that everything will work out just fine! Everything always does! Even though most of us are not religious...there are those few miracles a day! She will be one of them

She's fucking lucky all considered. Even if she loses the leg to have been hit that hard while on a crotch rocket by a truck...
had she not been wearing her helment she would of surely been dead, and for those who don't know, Wisconsin (home of Harley Davidson) is one of the few remaining states that don't require you to wear a helmet when you ride. Her grandma and uncle had only recently made her start wearing it, don't know if I said that or not, but just one of those things.
Friend of mine was kind of geeking cause she (my friend) had called her (girl in the accident) up the night before it happened and left a message saying that she missed her cause they hadn't hung out in a while.
