Well, over the past couple days I found out that the doctors decided they weren't going to take my insurance after they have been accepting it for a month and a half, and that my motherboard has been slowly dieing; first the sound and now the AGP slot. Fortunatly I had an ASUS from when I first got my system. Unfortunatly in order to use it I have to take a cut in RAM, cut back to only 1 useable PCI slot, and everything is running really god damn slow. It may just be that I need to O/C shit in the BIOS and maybe run a windows repair. Anyway- that's part of the reason why I haven't been around as much and probably won't be in the next couple days. Any ideas of what to do with my Lanparty (fried) mobo, or how to get my Asus A7v8x-mx to run better would be appreciated, but most likely I will have already tried it. The other reason why I haven't been around is because of Thanksgiving and that because it was Thanksgiving my uncle came to visit with his spouse(?- he is gay, but he legally married) which meant it was a constant family dinner, and if there is one thing that will get me away from the computer it's Grandma's (or in this case my Uncle's) cooking. If you have no maturity at least try to keep the gay jokes to yourself **coughIrondogcough**.

Also if anyone knows any possible way to create a partition without formatting the entire drive- i.e. I have a 200gig hd and half is stuff I would like to keep and the other half I want partitioned- and all this without backing up the data to another computer if at all possible. I had to completely reinstall windows because the repair just screwed it up more and it just looped-reboot, and that pissed me off enough (along with previous experiences) that I want to switch to Linux... but just as a second OS in case I need something that only runs in windows **edit** I also just noticed that I can see the MTW favorites now

Flash the bios in the old board, sounds like bios issues to me, maybe even flash an older bios setting that you know works As far as I know there is no way to partition a formatted drive with out deleteing the partition and recreating it. but pop another drive in and use that as your boot drive for the other os, I have three drives in one computer 1 drive is Windoes OS 1 drive is Linux 1 drive is 200 GB for data You only need couple of small drives that can hold the OS's then you can clean windows off the 200 GB drive Oh and just cause you mentioned your uncles cooking, did you enjoy his tossed salad????

*ignores innuendo* You really care so much about food that you care what I eat? Well if you must know, we didn't have salad. The bios was fully up to date on the old board and my OS is on my 40gb, not my 200. It's just that I have no where to back up the data from the 200gb that can hold all of it, since there are only two 40gig hard drives I have access to and both of them have windows installed on them, leaving me ~55GB which is enough to store just the music and videos I have, and maybe a couple of the drivers I keep for backup so I don't have to search for them if windows screws up again

For resizing, moving or copying partitions you can use this freeware program (version 2.40 is best): http://www.ranish.com/part/ *Warning* be sure and read help files so that you know what you're doing before attempting any work on your partitions, as a hasty mistake could cost you bigtime!

How about I HAVE NO MONEY. That's about the only reason. This will at least last me to Christmas & my B-Day when I should get enough money to upgrade to at least a halfway decent 64 bit. However, this mobo seems to lack the capacity to overclock my CPU and it doesn't let me overclock my video card much, either. I wouldn't want to since it doesn't have all the fan controllers I need... yet *breaks out soldering iron, cheap molex fan, and a switch* (I have to control fan speed since I have to sleep with it in my room) -oh, and hibby, it doesn't say if it will format my drive, and version 2.4 isn't necessarily the best, it's just the best that's been proven stable so far. ok, I just looked at it and it works for FAT formats.... I need one that will work with NTFS and won't format the entire drive

ok, well in doing some research I found that SuSe (which I was planning on installing) already has an NTFS resize program that is supposed to be able to make partitions without formatting... only question is is if I am willing to put all my crap at risk
