(Weekly Poll 59) - To Tip Or Not To Tip?

So this poll was suggested by the long lost and now returned (part time at least) lilmamma.

So basically if you're eating out, (by which I mean food or drinks not in your home...not eating out as in eating someone out), what do you yourself tip the waitress?

Seeing how my wife is a waitress...................I always tip at least 20% and most times more than that. They deserve it for waiting on me.

25 to 40 percent depending on the service.

We usually tip between 20 and 25%. It has to be some pretty shitty ass service for us to tip less.

That being said, we have also quit going out to dinner with my best friend and her husband. They never leave a dime! Mind you we always get separate checks, and when we're out there are 9 of us, 4 in our family and 5 in theirs. It really irks me. So we've just stopped going out with them.

I start at 20% and depending on how attentive they are and how polite they are it goes up and down.

I do often leave a 1 cent tip because alot of wait staff seem to think that as long as the plate hits the table as they walk by, then they have done thier job.

I have also been know to tip 50%, but that is pretty rare and the wervice has to be really good

and if it is a buffet then they only ever get a couple of dollars tip

damn i need you all to be my guests! i make sure my tables are full on drinks and they have everything they need and i ask them a few times while they are eating if they need anything im always nice and stuff but people are cheap assholes around here
i can have a party of 10 and get left like 8-10 bucks i think thats stoopid!
but what can you do i guess maybe if i lived somewhere else where people arent so fucking greedy or poor id do alot better

we usally only get 5$ a table
anything more is a miracle
and were talking like 60-100+ bills too with like 4-6 people at a table sometimes 8+ and not to mention when they bring in 4+ kids with them and the hell of a mess they leave behind we have to clean up and wehre only getting paid 2.13 an hour AND we dont even get that at the end of the week cause they count our credit card tips towards us on our checks so we mainly get paid like .50 cents a week(check wise)

When I was just out of high school, a group of us- about 6 people went out to get pizza. The waitress was horrible, she had a bad attitude and was rude. She brought our drinks out, got half of them wrong- then bitched about it, then after we got the drinks right brought out our pizza- pretty much just dropped it in the middle of the table. Never came back to ask if we needed refills or anything. So when we left we left her a happy face on the table made out of pennies, and left one of my friends' dad's cards- (he's a shrink)
