Why no shoutbox?

Ive always wondered why there wasnt a shoutbox on here, is there a specific reason?

Shoutboxes are cool when u want to say 'hello' but dont want to make a thread saying it

Or when u posted a thread and go to shoutbox and put "check my cool thread here.." or "i just got a big score on tetris in the arcade".

we had one and it pulled all the traffic from the chatroom

also it was starting to be used for just insulting people

We did experiment with having it as an alternative to chat for a while but we really want to encourage people to use the chat room more...I think that's part of the reason why I rarely read the shoutbox on sites like xtreme, I'm just used to not having one...

Although when we were kicking the idea of a radio show/webcam link up show thingy a while back it was being toyed with as a way for people to communicate if we were broadcasting...dunno quite where we ever got with that idea though.

Its also a hog on the server. Not sure though. I liked it and feel like bring it back, just because the use of the chat room is so damn limited. Chat room rules because of the cams, but I think its a total waste sometimes when I see a week go by and nobody uses it. I just don't know what to do.

It may come back though.

I really like a shoutbox, I don't have a webcam so the chat room really has no appeal to me, and for me the chat room opens a new window so it's not as easy for me to do other things and be in the chat room like in a shoutbox.

I'm not always webcam ready believe it or not...j/k i'm not that concieted...anyhow a shout box may be a great idea because i can multitask better like i dont have to minus down the shout box to see other things.
