| Lusting Over Leelee | ![]() Movie Title: 30 Days of Night Director: David Slade Rated: UK:15 / Australia:R (original rating) / Malaysia:18SG / Singapore:R21 / Taiwan:R-18 / Norway:18 / Singapore:M18 (edited for re-rating) / USA:R (certificate #42767) / Australia:MA (re-rating on appeal) / Philippines:R-13 (cut) / Hong Kong:IIB / Finland:K-18 / Ireland:16 / Germany:18 / Canada:13+ (Quebec) / Netherlands:16 / Canada:18A (Alberta/British Columbia/Manitoba/Ontario) Genre: Horror / Thriller Runtime: 113 Minutes Viewed: Sitting in my chair in front of the TV Trailer:
Synopsis: This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction. Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction. Opinion: Well first off, before I even started to watch this I made the joke to Kelly about how it was a "vampire" movie set in Alaska and I wondered if that was what Evan (Shak) was as he's from Alaska, and then when I started to watch the movie the main character played by Josh Hartnett I thought was called Evan and just about died laughing, but it turns out it was Eban...never mind, anyways, on with the review... As most of you will probably know by now, I love horror movies and this one intrigued me. So I made a point to sit and watch it last night and....wow! I'd never heard of the graphic novel (comic book) it was based on and all I knew was what I'd seen in the trailer, but it didn't disappoint. This isn't your usual vampire movie where the vamps are all goth and wear fancy clothing or just nibble you on the neck...these guys are cold killers, ancient, speak in a different language and are almost primeval and boy are they messy eaters. I also don't think I'd seen anything that Josh Hartnett had been in before and as there was no other "big" stars in it other than maybe Melissa George made it that much more....I dunno grounded, I was gonna say realistic but we are talking about a vampire/monser flick here. One of the things that was good about this movie is that it left a lot of things unexplained and unanswered...which I kinda liked as I don't like it when a film has to use the mommysalomi technique of explaining everything step-by-step and then breaking it down more and walking you through everything. What I mean is that you never actually find out if these things are actually vampires, where they came from, or any of that, they just are there, they're killing brutally and that's all you need to know. I'm not gonna give too much away about how it all goes down, but it turns in to a battle for survival for not just the residents, but for the town itself. If you like horror flicks or vampire movies, there';s a lot to enjoy here, but if you don't like horror flcks, it's probably one to steer away from. it looks interesting, but I will have to find someone who will be willing to either watch it with me, or let me have the tv for the night!

Someone replied to this review on another forum saying that they thought it was annoying with the "juddery" camera work and that it took away from the movie....I didn't even notice it, (maybe my eyes have gotten worse..let's ask re re), but I genuinely did think it was a good movie...very blood thirsty.
