Pages load faster

I need to sort out how to include the left column in all the pages yet some how rebuild it so that the entire page isn't built within two large cells like it currently is. Left Column and All Content to the right of the left column. The reason the pages lag for a moment for those that use IE is that IE loads everything within the tables first before displaying the table. Since everything below the logo is within a table, everything must load. This is due to the way I have the left column appearing.

Once I figure out how to keep the left column but make it appear differently, the forums will load much, much faster.
