| KING OF MEAN | Down Hill sledding
My little brother came to visit this last weekend with his wife. He lives in Colorado. One night we were sitting around talking about things we did as kids and my little bro says" tell everyone what happened when we went sledding that time." His wife said that she has been waiting for 2 years to hear the story but my bro won't tell her. So here it is. My parents had gone on a vacation but left my brother and I to feed the cattle and take care of the ranch that we lived on. I think I was 11 or 12. We lived in Montana and in the winter if we weren't skiing then we were intertubing down the hills. Well we had a steep hill on our property that was probably 200 yards long and rose up about 200 ft. So we started to go down this hill all the way to the creek at the bottom. We finally got our track all set so it went to the edge of the creek with a jump so that we could fly across the 10ft wide creek. I figured that it would be a good idea to add water to the track so it would ice up and we should have no problem jumping the creek. The next day my bro and I got up early to try it out. Being the oldest I decided that I should be first and so I went. I got a running start and jumped onto my intertube and down I went head first.I was doing great until I got to the jump, which I had grossly misscalculated in trojectory. I hit the jump and proceeded to flip head over heals though the air but over the creek. When I landed on the other side I was somewhat upside down and suddenly stopped, but dry. It took me a couple of minutes to gain my bearings as to where I was but finally did. Problem was that there was blood everywhere and what appeared to be a millipede on the snow. I quickly checked myself for any broken bones that may be protruding out somewhere but couldn't find any. However my face felt warm and wet, so I touched my face to see what the hell was going on. Blood everywhere! I tried to blink my eyes to clear what was now in my eyes. The blinking did wonders on one side but the other side was having some problems. It seems that the stunt sledding had REMOVED the other eyelid when I had hit the submerged tree stump. No wonder I came to such a sudden stop. FUNNY THING IS IWASN'T IN MUCH PAIN When my brother finally got to me I turned to him and said" Look I close my eyes but I can still see you." I thought he was going to faint right there. We picked up the lose eyelid and drove to town to the hospital. The doctor on call was a good friend of our family and asked what I was in for, so I pulled the eyelid out of my pocket and asked if he could put it back on. All he could do was laugh and add the procedure to the extensive file that I had generated for many years. After 26 stiches and a little recouperation I'm happy to say that all is well and my eye only twiches when I see someone sledding. |
