MD, that's stating that the legal drinking age for DOD's is set to what the drinking age is for the country. For example, the legal drinking age for America is 21, so if you are in the military, you can't drink until you are 21. BUT the legal drinking age here in Japan is set for 20 for dod's. So if you are a military serviceman and are about to come to Japan and are 20, you'll be able to drink. It doesn't mean that you can drink once you are in the military. They take strict action for underage drinking.

Although I too believe that you should be able to drink at the age of 18.

well i think that if they give you the power to vote ...which i belive is a pretty damn big resonsabilty you should be able to drink s afew beers....
but the drunk driving thing is just fucking IGNORANT!!!! no two ways about it i dont care if youve had 2 drinks or 20 DONT FUCKING DRIVE!!!!!!!!
cause me and my kids and millions of other familys and people dont wanna die or have loved ones die just cause your to fucking stupid to call a cab...suck up your pride and call one im sure somones family would be gratefull.how hard is it to make a designated driver ahead of time when u go out hell ive been the DD alot for my friends and ive had friends be the DD for me.....even now when i go out with who ever we always make a plan of how to get home safe wether its calling somone sober to come get us or call a cab.......DONT DRINK AND DRIVE ITS STUPID!!!!!!!!

It's the parents fault for not instilling the concept of responsibility in thier kids, and public schools don't have the power to do that. I was taught early on that what I do has an effect on me, and not to shit where I eat (in some creative ways, I might add... public humiliation works great for some punishments). If all parents taught thier kids this, then I believe there wouldn't be as big of a drunk driving problem, and the alcohol age limit could be dropped completely. As it stands now it is useless, you either have something allowed all the way or not at all IMO, otherwise you can't control it. I could probably think of half a dozen places I could get alcohol without being noticed in just a couple seconds, as could most other people my age.
so, my conclusion is- the age limit doesn't work at all. The only way to cut down on drunk driving and underage/binge drinking is teaching responsibility at an early age. (the way I was taught for everyday incidents was military style push-ups... I joined JROTC and when they taught how to do them in class I realized everything was the same as what I was taught when I was 5)

Yes the law is the law , mainly couse thats a medical reason ( somehting to do with your memmory stem is finished growing at 21? and or drinking wont effect it when u hit the age 21 ??? ) anyways, yes I know that allthough theese days nothign is really stopping underaged poeple from drinking. But I highly doubt in America that they would lower the age limit. Im 21 and i have yet gone to a bar, ( Unless you concider the bowling ally bar wooofuckign hoo

But i do agree , teaching kids at a young age about being responcilble when they get older would help. anyways thats all i have ot say right now....back to celaning i go ...

Abolish alcohol altogether.

I'm deadly serious when I say this too, because although I enjoy a cold stout from time to time and I often go out with my buddies, killing time at the bars until closing time, I would be willing to give it up if it meant saving people from themselves. I'm certain that many people would feel the same way.

Sure, there are those who have the smarts and know better than to tempt fate and bomb around in a packed vehicle after knocking back a case, but there are those who don't. Frankly, I'm fucking sick of people crying either "They got what they deserved" or "When will people learn".

If alcohol was done away with I could see a brighter future for everyone, and additionally, the police could focus their time and effort on other problems. That's just one of the benefits. Think about it some more and I'm sure you'll find a few more.

I love beer, I love shooting the shit with my crew and having a few drinks, but I love life even more...even the lives of those I've never met. I'm a dreamer, but it never hurts to hope.

You couldnt actually get rid of alcohol, not now anyway. People would just figure out a way to get/make it illegally, like in that episode of the simpsons (where all of lifes important lessons come from, hehe). We have a drinking age of 18 here, and, personally, i think that that is too high. There is alot of argument that you should be able to drink BEFORE your allowed to get your licence, that way its not a new thing. I fully agree with them.
btw, 21 is such a random number anyway, there is no point. 21 is just weird.

The problem with drinking ages is that nobody cares about them, the legal drinking age is just a rule that isn't enforced. Alcohol is ingrained in our society as a normal thing to do. We go out with friends to the bar, we go out to sporting events and drink.

Kids are not brought up to respect alcohol, they are brought up to see who can drink the most.

As for the drinking and driving issue, I just read somewhere that the problem around here is not with people under the age of 25 it is with people over 30 who feel like the law doesn't apply to them. Personally any who ever gets caught drinking and driving should be strung up in the town square for everyone to throw rotting vegetables at. Unfortunately they are never the ones that get hurt in the accidents it is always the other person that gets crippled or killed.

It all boils down to a law is a law and rules are rules, as soon as you start breaking the rules and teaching everyone else that they can so the same, then everything breaks down and anarchy sets in.
