Forum moderating!!

I've been visiting a number of different forums and can't help but be amused by the difference of Morty's Forum to almost every other forum that I've been in!!

The first thing that struck me as a Moderator here over other forums is rules...damn, every other forum has all these rules how what to do and what not to do, and what will happen if you do or don't do as those rules state.

With these boards, it was like, go crazy - have fun!! Which is a good thing, it show's how despite what you may or may not think we are a pretty laid back bunch around here, I guess it's that Californian influence of Morty & The Monkey Man!!

The one thing that made me laugh though was this rule.....

Aggressiveness to the Moderators or Administrators, will be an instant ban if no good reason is given.

The forum that has this rule frowns on that sort of thing whereas here I think that aggressiveness both to and from the Moderators or Administrators is a requirement of using the site, makes it more fun I think!!

Anywho, it just amused me in my 3.50am, booze-fuelled, caffiene and sleep deprived state, and with that said - if you spot any typos, (which I'm sure someone will), in the words of CableMonkey...BITE ME!!!

What forums did you visit?

I for one post on another forum and when I first joined this one I was surprised by all of the rules. So I just find it funny that you would make that statement.

This forum has rules??? If it was the Registration agreement terms, I think you'll find that they are standard forum rules and not particular rules laid down by the site owner. On most other forums I see constant editing of posts by moderators, as well as locking of posts and warnings being given for the slightest infringement.

To the best of my knowledge, I have only seen one post locked here, and that was a pointless thread about what day it was, and the nearest we ever got to banning anyone was that nimrod Bradley, but we had more fum busting the bastard and making him run away with his little tail between his legs.

So that is very little editing of posts, almost no locking of posts, very few warnings given out, and no users banned...sorry what were these rules you were talking about exactly????

When I first registered in the "rules and explanations" forum there were actual rules, this was awhile ago and I know see they have been removed. I remember one was not to have conversation, like only post on the topic- something along those lines.

But aside from that, most forums that have a lot of posters need rules and mods to keep things in order and keep the majority posters happy.

It wasn't that I was surprised by any rules in particular, just that there was rules- which there obviously isn't anymore.

I agree about some forums needing rules to 'keep the kiddies' in line, but I think the general approach around here works better. Everyone basically picks on everyone in a fairly friendly manner and then if some gets out of line everyone else seems to turn on them anyway.

The resident Monkey seems to work just fine on the majority of morons however!!

I agree that is the best way, but some site owners like to keep the numbers up and scaring away newbies doesn't really help with numbers. It depends on what the site owner's intentions are.
