I can't help but feel you both missed the point by about a mile or so. The joke isn't in what the article actually said, (there probably wasn't even an article). The point was that the article should have scared you into not drinking again, however, in the joke it scared them into not reading again.

In other words it's ok to drink yourself to death as long as you don't read about it.

Jokes always seem to lose something when you have to break them down to their component parts and explain them to people.... or was that the joke and I didn't get it???
